Pilot Information

Airport Facilities and Services

The Nanaimo Airport offers a broad range of airport facilities and services built around a 6600 foot runway and parallel taxiway system. Instrument approaches to the airport include; ILS, RNAV (GPS), NDB, NDB/DME. Air traffic advisory and weather services are provided by the NAV Canada through a local flight services station - during the hours of 0530 to 2130 and remotely outside of these hours.

Fixed Base Operations (FBO)

Fuel Services - Fuel services are provided by Columbia Fuels. These are limited to Jet A and Av-gas fuels. Please phone (250) 245-7402 for more information and payment options.

Pilots lounge - A small area for pilots and a weather and flight planning kiosk is provided in the Columbia Fuels building.

Food Services - Food services are provided by Connections Cafe' in main terminal. Please phone (250) 245-7096 for hours of operations or to discuss specific arrangements.

Passenger Parking - A pay parking facility is located directly in front of the terminal.

Air Terminal Operations

YCD is utilized by air carriers operating under Canadian Aviation Regulation 605 for the purpose of providing scheduled passenger service, therefore, the airport is certified in accordance with the Canadian Aviation Regulations.

The Nanaimo Air Terminal was completed in 1991 and serves as the primary air passenger facility for the greater Nanaimo area.

The air terminal handles on average - 150,000 passengers annually and the needs of multiple cargo and courier companies.

Our Terminal amenities include a licenced cafe' with a gift section, car and truck rental agencies and long and short term parking facility. Other transportation services available are taxi, shuttle and Greyhound.

Commercial Operations

Our commercial aviation services and facilities include scheduled and charter flights, air cargo and freight-courier services, aircraft refueling and maintenance, flight training and sight-seeing tours as well as aircraft parking and hangers.

The Nanaimo Airport also sees occasional activities from Air Ambulance, BC Forest Fighting, Corporate Jets, Search & Rescue, Angel Flights and Military exercises. We are also an alternate airport for aircraft unable to land on the west coast.

Also located on the premises is a golf course and clubhouse that offers taxiway access.
