Expansion, travel tips take stress out of holiday flying at Nanaimo Airport

December 14th, 2016 by laurie

Santa isn’t the only one making a list and checking it twice as the holiday season nears.

Thousands of Central Island vacationers are creating lists in anticipation of upcoming trips. And to help make their air travels go smoothly during the busiest season of the year, Nanaimo Airport is at work on its own To Do list, which includes an expansion.
Tips for stress-free holiday travel
For travellers, reducing the stress of getting to your destination is at the top of the list. Here are some holiday season tips:
1. Get here early
Arrive at the airport at least 90 minutes before your flight. Remember: thousands of other people are flying too, so give yourself plenty of time to board your flight.

2. Go through security right away
More people means more bags, so screening may take longer than usual. Your best bet? Clear security early and then relax in the departure lounge. There you’ll find TVs, a play area for kids, and food and beverage machines.

3. Pack gifts, liquids and gels in checked luggage
If you want to carry them on to your flight, you may be disappointed when going through security.

Airport expansion: “here we grow again”
The airport’s To Do list this fall includes expansion to accommodate record passenger volume.
Work has begun to enlarge the passenger lounge. The project includes additional seats and reducing congestion in the boarding area at peak times.
Enhancements to the terminal building will soon start. They will include more space in the passenger lounge and the baggage and security screening areas. And the car rental counters will relocate to increase space and comfort for passengers.

A key part of the plan is public feedback. Nanaimo Airport wants to hear your views, which you can submit at http://growing.nanaimoairport.com/
