Like any not-for-profit society, the Nanaimo Airport Commission (NAC) is governed by a Board of Directors who are responsible to its corporate mandate, overall function of the Airport, and the strategic direction for airport developments.
The NAC is comprised of up to nine Directors. Of the nine directors, four are selected by the Commission to represent the community at large and the remaining five appointments are a result of the nominations from these entities:
- The City of Nanaimo
- The Regional District of Nanaimo
- The Cowichan Valley Regional District
- The Town of Ladysmith
- The Greater Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce
Following April’s Annual General Meeting, a few changes have taken place around the board table of the NAC. Wendy Clifford, who is a Partner at Heath Law LLP in Nanaimo, has filled a vacant Director at Large seat and Jerry Pink, Past Char, has stepped down.
Jerry stepped down after being a dedicated member of the board for over seven years. His leadership as Chair is credited for the expansion projects at Nanaimo Airport. “I’m pleased I could play a role in an organization that has such significant impact on the lives of regional residents,” shares Pink. “I’m proud of the work our CEO, Mike Hooper, his Staff and the Board of Directors have accomplished, and I believe it is time to pass the responsibilities to the next team.”
“Our Nominating Committee has been working hard over the past couple of months reviewing possible nominees. Using a skills matrix, the Committee has looked to match the talents and experience of the nominees to the Board’s requirements to ensure strong depth on the board,” says Russ Burke, Chair of NAC. “The appointment of Wendy further balances the board. Her experience with commercial and business law will be invaluable and help us achieve our strategic goals.”
